Vanderbilt's Employee Celebration 2007 kicks off Monday, Sept. 10.

The monthlong event honors Vanderbilt staff and faculty for their service, and begins with a day of festivities on Library Lawn.

The Sept. 10 Kick-off runs from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., and will feature free hot-air balloon rides, chair massages, food, as well as door prize drawings and entertainment by musical acts including The McKaskles, Soul Incision, Jennifer Brantley and Abby Burke.

Tickets will be pre-sold at the Kick-off for the Taste @ Vandy that will be held on Wednesday, Sept. 12. Some of the featured vendors will be F. Scotts, Sambuca, Watermark and Provence Breads. Tickets at Kick-off may be purchased for $3 and they will be $4 the day of the Taste. All proceeds benefit the Employee Assistance Hardship Fund.

Throughout the month, a variety of free special events will take place. As in past years, T-shirts will be given away at several of the events, but this year employees must present their ID badges, which will be scanned. If collecting a shirt for a co-worker, their badge must be scanned as well. Events where shirts will be available include the Kick-off Celebration, Friday Night Lights and Night Owl Howl.

“The planning committee has done an excellent job is creating a wide range of events that we believe will appeal in some way to everyone at Vanderbilt,” said Susie Lyons, manager, employee programs. “ From Life Coaching to Football 101 and learning about money management, we have wonderful brown bag sessions planned.”

“This is a special month of recognition of how important our employees are to Vanderbilt year round,” said Harry R. Jacobson, M.D., vice chancellor for Health Affairs.
