Giacomini is co-chair of the Department of Bioengineering and Therapeutic Sciences at the University of California, San Francisco, and a member of the Institute of Medicine.

Her research focuses on the role of membrane transporters in drug absorption and disposition and how genetic variations in transporters affect clinical drug response.

Giacomini's lecture is the Grant R. Wilkinson Distinguished Lectureship, sponsored by the Division of Clinical Pharmacology and the Department of Pharmacology.
