Dr. Christopher E. Harris, assistant professor of Pediatrics, has been named president of the Gay and Lesbian Medical Association. The announcement was made at a board meeting preceding GLMA’s 19th Annual Conference.

Founded in 1981, the organization works to eliminate homophobia in medicine and work toward equal access in health care for lesbian and gay people in North America.

Harris is the first African American to lead the organization and will head up the 25-member board of directors and the executive committee.
