President Barack Obama's choice to lead his White House Office for Health Reform has ties to Vanderbilt.

Nancy-Ann Min DeParle was appointed last week as director of the newly created office at the same time that Obama announced Kansas Gov. Kathleen Sebelius as his nominee for Health and Human Services Secretary.

DeParle served on the advisory board for Health Care Solutions Group, founded by the Nashville Health Care Council and Vanderbilt Medical Center to focus on improving the nation’s health care system.

“Nancy-Ann DeParle has a tremendous amount of experience in both government and health care, and brings a great deal of skill to this crucial post,” said Harry Jacobson, M.D., vice chancellor for Health Affairs.”
