Babies and You

Babies and You is a prenatal program offered to full time faculty and staff and their dependents. Co-sponsored by Health Plus and the March of Dimes, this program focuses on early prenatal care, the prevention of birth defects and low birth weight. Sign up for Babies and You within the first trimester of pregnancy and your baby will be eligible to receive a $100 savings bond when he or she is born.

The June class will be June 20 and the topic will be “Nutrition for a Healthy Start.” The instructor is Marilyn Holmes, a registered dietitian and manager of Health Plus.

The July class will be July 18 and the topic will be “Benefits Decisions During Pregnancy.” The instructor is Barbara Holton of the benefits office of Human Resource Services.

The August class will be August 15 and the topic will be “Breastfeeding: A Positive Choice.” The instructor is Beth James, a registered nurse, who is from the Women’s Education and Lactation Center.

The classes meet from noon to 1 p.m. in 415 Light Hall. To register for Babies and You classes, call 343-8943.

Going swimming

The Vanderbilt Swim School is in its 34th year of teaching children and adults how to swim. Classes include Parent/Child, Child Nonswimmer, Child Progressive, Child Advanced, and Adult Nonswimmer, and go on until August 3. Most sessions are five days a week for two weeks, and cost $90. Some specialized classes may cost more. There is a $5 discount for Vanderbilt staff and faculty, and a $10 discount for the second child from the same family.
