Hey Florence! set for September premiere

Hey Florence! – a musical both hilarious and poignant reflecting the day-to-day life of nurses at Vanderbilt University Medical Center – premieres in September.

Directed by Australian playwright Craig Christie and produced by the Office of Cultural Enrichment in collaboration with the Nurse Wellness Committee, the 60-minute show stars active-duty VUMC nurses. Christie based the musical on stories told by VUMC nurses as well as his own experiences shadowing them throughout their workday.

It includes songs like “Someone’s Gotta Do It,” about the difficult and messy jobs nurses take on, “Another Goodbye,” about the pain of losing patients, and “I Need Chocolate,” which needs no explanation.

The musical, held in Langford Auditorium, will run Sept. 10-12 at 7 p.m. with an additional 2 p.m. matinee on Sept. 12.

Nurses from any health care institution, as well as Vanderbilt University School of Nursing students, will receive free admission upon showing their ID badge. Other adult tickets are $10, and children 18 and under are $5. Tickets can be purchased at Vanderbilt Valet, at the Office of Cultural Enrichment in 1002 Oxford House, or at the door.
