Gerald Hickson, M.D., director of the Center for Patient and Professional advocacy at Vanderbilt Medical Center, recently received the Vanguard Award for the Advancement of Patient Safety from the Doctors Company Foundation.

Hickson, also associate dean for Clinical Affairs and director of Clinical Risk and Loss Prevention, was honored for his leadership contributions to the national patient safety movement.

The Vanguard Award is designed to draw public and industry attention to the importance of patient safety within the medical profession and to recognize physicians who demonstrate leadership in this area.
