Higgins takes reins as anesthesiology society leader

Michael Higgins, M.D., M.P.H., chair of Vanderbilt's Department of Anesthesiology, was installed as president of the 729-member Tennessee Society of Anesthesiologists (TSA) at the society's annual meeting recently in Nashville.

The TSA is a physician organization that works to promote patient safety and standards of anesthesiology care, as well as to provide general advocacy for anesthesiologists and their patients.

“We were able to create an exciting program that encompassed many of the important issues in perioperative care which made this one of the most successful annual meetings of the society,” said Higgins.

“The presentations highlighted the valuable contributions made by the specialty to the safety and quality of care in surgery, critical care, and pain management.”
