A symposium celebrating the career of Jack N. Wells, Ph.D., professor of Pharmacology, Emeritus, will be held Monday, June 30 at 2 p.m. in 206 Preston Research Building.
Speakers at the event, called “G Protein Coupled Receptor Signaling,” include Dr. Italo Biaggioni, professor of Medicine and Pharmacology, Lee E. Limbird, Ph.D., associate vice chancellor for Research, and Elaine Sanders-Bush, Ph.D., professor of Pharmacology and Psychiatry. The symposium will be followed at 5 p.m. by a courtyard reception honoring Wells.
Wells joined the VUMC faculty in 1973 after nine years on the Purdue University School of Pharmacy faculty. His recent research has focused on the receptors for adenosine, an important neuromodulator in the central and peripheral nervous systems. He and colleagues have worked to define the adenosine receptor binding pocket, a critical prelude to the design of drugs specific for these receptors.
