Lee promoted to associate vice chancellor

Joel G. Lee, executive director of Communications at VUMC, has been promoted to associate vice chancellor for Medical Center Communications. Dr. Harry R. Jacobson, vice chancellor for Health Affairs, made the announcement this week.

Lee, who has led the VUMC Communications team since 1997, will continue to oversee all aspects of VUMC communications, including marketing communications, editorial direction of 15 Medical Center publications for both internal and external audiences, and management of media relations.

“Being at Vanderbilt has been a great opportunity,” said Lee. “Vanderbilt is a wonderful place to work, and the success we’ve had would not be possible without an extraordinarily capable staff.”

Lee came to Vanderbilt in 1997 from the University of Maryland Medical System where he was vice president for market development and communication. Prior to that he was deputy secretary for the Department of Economic and Employment Development for the state of Maryland. Lee also served as deputy chief of staff for the Office of the Governor of Maryland.

“This newly created position will expand Joel’s creative reach to further benefit VUMC,” said Jacobson. “Joel is an integral part of the VUMC team and this promotion clearly indicates my faith in his abilities not only to tell the Medical Center’s story, but also to help create our strategy for success.”
