Lindsley named editor of neuroscience journal
Craig Lindsley, Ph.D., associate professor of Pharmacology and Chemistry, has been named editor-in-chief of a new scientific journal that will launch in January 2010.
ACS Chemical Neuroscience, to be published by the American Chemical Society (ACS), will focus on the molecular aspects of neurological science in both health and disease.
The new online bimonthly journal will include feature articles and peer-reviewed letters, articles and reviews on topics including nerve activators and receptors, nerve growth and development, nerve imaging, pain and sensory processing, and the diagnosis and treatment of neurological diseases, the ACS stated in a release.
“Neuroscience research is exploding. We are now at a point where the small molecule tools and technology have never been better to study the nervous system, and this new journal will be at the forefront of this exciting time in neuroscience research,” said Lindsley, director of Medicinal Chemistry for the Vanderbilt Program in Drug Discovery.
Lindsley brings both academic and industrial experience to his role.
He earned his Ph.D. in Chemistry from the University of California, Santa Barbara, completed postdoctoral training at Harvard University and conducted medicinal chemistry research at Parke-Davis Pharmaceuticals, Eli Lilly & Co., and Merck & Co.
Since joining the Vanderbilt faculty in 2006, he has focused on developing new treatments for schizophrenia, Parkinson’s disease and other disorders.
Vanderbilt faculty members now edit three ACS journals, more than any other single university. Chemical Research in Toxicology is edited by Lawrence Marnett, Ph.D., and Biochemistry is edited by Richard Armstrong, Ph.D.
