List of top doctors includes 73 from Vanderbilt
Vanderbilt University Medical Center physicians again are a dominant presence in the 11th edition of “America’s Top Doctors,” a peer-recommended list published annually by Castle Connolly Medical.
The 11th edition includes 73 VUMC faculty representing a diverse array of specialists and subspecialists recognized as being among the best in their respective fields.
This year’s list represents an increase of 12 physicians from the 61 named to the 10th edition “America’s Top Doctors” list published in 2011.
“There is no question we have superb doctors and nurses at Vanderbilt. This list is further testament our physicians are widely recognized by peers from across the nation as being among the best,” said C. Wright Pinson, MBA, M.D., deputy vice chancellor for Health Affairs and CEO of the Vanderbilt Health System.
“I want to congratulate our faculty who were named to this list, and also say that I know many not on this list who are also superior physicians worthy of inclusion.”
Castle Connolly’s methodology first asks physicians in both academic and private practice from across the country to participate in the nomination process to identify physicians in every specialty who demonstrate excellence.
Then a physician-led research team carefully reviews the credentials of every physician considered for inclusion.
The review includes, among other factors, scrutiny of medical education, training, hospital appointments, administrative posts, professional achievements, malpractice and disciplinary history.
According to Castle Connolly, doctors do not and cannot pay to be included in any Castle Connolly listing or guide.
Last March, Castle Connolly announced collaboration with U.S. News and World Report, linking Castle Connolly’s Top Doctors database with U.S. News’ Best Hospitals website.
At http://health.us-news.com/top-doctors, consumers can now search the full database of Top Doctors.
Castle Connolly Medical’s list for “America’s Top Doctors” is separate from “Best Doctors in America,” another annual listing of the nation’s top physicians, published by Boston-based Best Doctors Inc.
