Magnet update

Vanderbilt University Medical Center’s Magnet site visit is set for Feb. 20-24, 2012. With 11 weeks to go, the VUMC Reporter will periodically provide information leading up to the visit to help staff and faculty prepare for the American Nurses Credentialing Center appraisers.

What is Magnet?

Being named a Magnet organization is the highest level of recognition that the American Nurses Credentialing Center can accord to health care organizations which provide nursing care. Only about 6 percent of hospitals achieve this designation. There are only three in Tennessee.

Isn’t VUMC already a Magnet Organization?

Yes. However, the Magnet designation only lasts four years and then organizations must apply for a second designation. This visit will determine whether or not VUMC is still considered a Magnet Organization.
