Meharry, VU students to host community day
The Meharry-Vanderbilt Student Alliance (MVSA) is partnering with the Buena Vista Heights Neighborhood Association to host a health disparities conference and community day on Saturday, April 16.
The inaugural Buena Vista Neighborhood Disparities Conference and Community Day will be held at Fifteenth Avenue Church of Christ, 2127 15th Ave. N., from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Recent discussions between members of MVSA and representatives of the Buena Vista Heights Neighborhood Association about community concerns, as well as health and safety issues of the residents, led the groups to develop the event.
Activities will include healthy cooking demonstrations, panel discussions about community issues, childhood obesity and college exploration, entertainment for children and door prizes.
Health screenings will also be available including:
• Blood pressure;
• Rapid HIV testing;
• Dental health;
• Women's health; and
• Men's health.
