New awards recognize those who advanced nursing’s mission

New awards recognize those who advanced nursing’s mission

Last week’s State of Nursing presentation also included a series of special award recognitions. Several new awards were bestowed this year including the:

Advocacy Award (for those who advocate for the profession of nursing and for patients) — Elaine Atteberry, Blanche Brabender, Beth Broering, Jan Dahlke, Dana Fulton, Timothy Givens, M.D., Richard Hearn, Rachel Jackson, Shelly Padgett, Barbara Shultz and Randee White.

Rising Star Recognition Award (recognizing those nurses at VUMC two years or less who are role models to other new nurses) — Michele Arndt, Veronica Crawley, Justin Defluiter, Julie Doyle, Shannon Fielding, Lisa Lachenmyer, Jennifer Perez, Naomi Prashad and Meghan Underwood.

Risk Management Award (Given to the nurse who has made significant improvement in patient care and safety processes) — Pat Throop, R.N.

Rebecca Clark Culpepper Award (given jointly by VUMC and VUSN in recognition of professional development and mentorship of nursing colleagues) — Sarah Hutchison, manager, 10 North Trauma.

VUSN Faculty Nurse Award (faculty member who has made the greatest contribution to the field of nursing) — Mary Jo Gilmer, Ph.D., R.N.

Friend of Nursing Award (honors individuals who support and recognize the importance of nursing in the delivery of health care) — Kristi Butts, program coordinator for shared governance.
