New nurse residents ready to transition into new roles

Vanderbilt Medical Center Nursing welcomed its third group of nurse residents on July 6.

Culled from more than 500 applicants to this year’s program, the group of 114 represents nurses from 21 states and 55 different schools of nursing with an average 3.4 grade point average.

The VMC Nurse Residency program offers recent nursing graduates rotations in the adult surgical, adult medical, adult critical care and pediatric tracks. The program is designed to help new nurses transition into their professional nurse role at the same time they assimilate into VMC’s goal of providing quality care for patients.

Vanderbilt’s Summer 2008 group of nurse residents have a 94 percent retention rate.
