Community Giving Campaign ends Dec. 31

The 2001 Vanderbilt Community Giving Campaign will end Dec. 31. Organizers are currently working toward the goal of $800,000 and need everyone’s help. If you have any questions or need a blank pledge form, please contact the campaign office at 3-8759 or email, community.giving@vanderbilt.edu.

Vanderbilt’s three partner federations are Community Shares, United Way of Metropolitan Nashville and Community Health Charities of Tennessee.

Lewis to address domestic partner policy at meeting

Darlene Lewis, associate vice chancellor for Human Resources Services, will be the guest speaker at the Vanderbilt Graduate and Professional Lesbian/Bisexual/Gay Student Association on Dec. 13 at 5:30 p.m. Lewis will discuss domestic partner benefits at Vanderbilt

Lewis was involved in the development and implementation of the domestic partner policy, which went into effect Jan. 1, 2000.

The meeting will be held at the Office of GLBT Life, formerly the Community Partnership House Annex.

Gilbert awarded scholar grant

The Pfizer Scholars in Urology Grant was recently awarded to the Department of Urologic Surgery in honor of Dr. W. Barritt Gilbert, chief resident in Urology.

The $2,000 award honors the urology resident or fellow who embodies the educational, research, and patient care goals of Vanderbilt University Medical Center.

Gilbert was recognized by Dr. Joseph A. Smith Jr., William L. Bray Professor and Chairman of Urologic Surgery, and representatives of Pfizer Pharmaceutical Group in a brief ceremony in the department.
