Dr. Terence S. Dermody, associate professor of Pediatrics, has been appointed to the United States Medical Licensing Examination (USMLE) Step 1 Test Material Development Committee for Microbiology of the Federation of State Medical Boards of the United States and the National Board of Medical Examiners.

Dermody, also assistant professor of Microbiology and Immunology and director of the Elizabeth B. Lamb Center for Pediatric Research at VUMC, joins the distinguished corps of examination committees for the USMLE Program, which is composed of the academic, practice and licensing communities.

Health Plus is helping VUMC faculty and staff get a Jump Start for Better Health, a new class added to the schedule this month.

This water program, held in the pool at Memorial Gym, is designed to be a catalyst for incorporating any exercise routine into one's lifestyle slowly and consistently. The basis of Jump Start for Better Health is to be a stepping stone to a new level of activity where each participant will be encouraged to set individual goals and will be challenged to improve daily.

Knowing how to swim is not required. The class will meet for five weeks beginning Jan. 13. For more information and to register, call 242-8943.
