The award is presented annually to an outstanding student in honor of Shapiro, who taught pathology at Vanderbilt from 1951 to 1971. The award will be presented to a member of the Vanderbilt Medical School class of 2001 on the basis of accomplishments and potential in medicine, as well as strength of character, motivation and similar personal characteristics.

To nominate one of the fourth-year students, submit the supporting materials and any additional comments to Dr. Doyle G. Graham, professor and chair of Pathology, C-3322 MCN. Entries should be submitted by March 20.
