Nursing debuts ‘Octoberfest’

Vanderbilt University Medical Center nursing is hosting “Octoberfest: A Nursing Education Gala” Oct. 16-20 at various sites on campus. Presentations will address the hottest topics among Medical Center nurses, nurse managers and educators as determined by a comprehensive survey conducted earlier this year.

“Nurses told us they want more and varied continuing education opportunities that focus on issues such as evidence-based practice, dealing with challenging people, effective communications and more,” said Sandy Greeno, M.S.N., R.N., clinical learning consultant for Nursing Education and Development. “We know that continuing education is very important to most nurses, and we tailored this weeklong series to offer our nurses what they wanted most.”

Greeno and her colleagues on the Nursing Education Oversight Committee developed Octoberfest with flexibility in mind. Many of the most popular topics are offered at different times and days throughout the week.

“We wanted to make sure that the nurses had as much opportunity to attend at least one of the sessions or poster presentations,” said Greeno.
