Nursing School Dean appointed to national health policy agenda
Colleen Conway-Welch, Ph.D., Dean of the Vanderbilt University School of Nursing, has been appointed to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Service's Agency for Health Care Policy and Research.
The mission of the agency, established in 1989, is to support research designed to improve the quality of the nation's health care system, reduce health care costs, and broaden access to health care.
The agency is made up of health care professionals from across the country. Conway-Welch will serve a three-year term and will serve on the agency's advisory council on health care policy and evaluation.
Conway-Welch's appointment to the Agency for Health Care Policy and Research comes on the heels of her recent election to the Institute of Medicine, which is granted to only approximately 20 health care professionals per year and is based on service to the health care community.
"We at Vanderbilt are extremely proud of Dean Conway-Welch's achievements," said Dr. Harry R. Jacobson, Vice Chancellor for Health Affairs. "She has done a great deal lately to bring attention and recognition to Vanderbilt. These appointments are a reflection of her strong commitment to the institution and to quality education and health care."
