Nursing School’s Weiner joins health technology task force
Betsy Weiner, Ph.D., R.N., was recently appointed to the Bipartisan Policy Center’s Task Force on Delivery System Reform and Health Information Technology.

Weiner, who is senior associate dean for Informatics for Vanderbilt University School of Nursing, was sought out for her national expertise in health information technology.
“Betsy is a problem solver, innovator and national expert who knows how technology can make health care more effective and efficient,” said Colleen Conway-Welch, Ph.D., CNM, dean of the School of Nursing.
“She will literally have a ‘seat at the table’ and I know that as a nurse and as an informaticist, she will make tremendous contributions to the work this group is tackling.”
The Bipartisan Policy Center (BPC) is a Washington, D.C.-based think tank established in 2007 by former Senate Majority Leaders Howard Baker, Tom Daschle, Bob Dole and George Mitchell to develop and promote efficient health care solutions that can attract public support and gain political momentum.
The BPC’s health task force will focus on four major areas of health reform policy: insurance reform and exchange development; options for state flexibility with Medicaid programs; issues confronting health professionals; and the most effective use of information technology in health care delivery and financing. The group is co-chaired by former U.S. Senators Bill Frist and Tom Daschle.
In June, the group released a progress report, The Role of Health IT in Supporting Health Care Transformation: Building a Strong Foundation for America’s Health Care System. Later this year, the BPC task force will share recommendations on how limited public and private resources can work with health information technology to develop more effective delivery models.
