Office of News and Public Affairs adds Howell as staff photographer
Joe Howell has joined the Office of News and Public Affairs at Vanderbilt Medical Center as a staff photographer.
Howell is a graduate of Western Kentucky University's photojournalism program and spent the past 13 years working as a staff photographer for the Knoxville News Sentinel.
“We're delighted to have Joe join the Medical Center's team of photographers,” said John Howser, deputy director and media director of News and Public Affairs.
“He brings over a dozen years of award-winning, daily newspaper experience to VUMC. We think Joe's skills are a perfect addition to our group of talented visual artists.”
While at the News Sentinel, Howell worked with News and Public Affairs on several assignments, including an 11-month special project about an East Tennessee burn patient in the VUMC burn unit. Howell was also one of the photographers who worked on Vanderbilt's award-winning “Day in the Life” annual report project.
Prior to his education at WKU, Howell served in the U.S. Marine Corps.
