Pharmacology forum to focus on repairing human body
New ways to fix the human body will take center stage at this year's Joel G. Hardman Student-Invited Pharmacology Forum, which will be held Tuesday, April 11.
The forum lets graduate students in the Pharmacological Sciences Training Program identify a focused research area and invite recognized scientists to participate.
The topic of this year's symposium is "Rebuilding the Human Body: From Stem Cells to Tissue Engineering."
Speakers will include:
• Ronald D. G. McKay, Ph.D., chief of the Laboratory of Molecular Biology at the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke, "Building Brains with Stem Cells."
• Christine E. Schmidt, Ph.D., assistant professor of Chemical and Biomedical Engineering at the University of Texas at Austin, "Biomaterials and Tissue Engineering: Novel Approaches for Biomedical Therapies."
• Dr. Ercem Atillasoy, director of Internal Medicine, Dermatology and Tissue Engineering at Novartis Pharmaceuticals Corporation, "Tissue Engineered Skin: New Solutions for Chronic Problems."
The symposium is from 1 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. in 214 Light Hall.
Following the seminars, graduate students in the Pharmacological Sciences Training Program will present their research in a poster session from 4:30 p.m. to 6 p.m. in the MRB I third-floor atrium.
