Michelle Reniere, a Microbiology & Immunology graduate student in the laboratory of Eric Skaar, Ph.D., won the prize for best student poster at the 2009 FASEB Summer Research Conference on Microbial Pathogenesis: Mechanisms of Infectious Diseases.

Her research focuses on how Staphylococcus aureus, one of the most important bacterial pathogens in the United States, causes disease. “Staph” is the leading cause of skin and soft tissue infections and infectious heart disease and is the top hospital-acquired infection.
