Presidential thanks
Vanderbilt pediatric heart surgeon Karla Christian, M.D., chats with President George Bush at Nashville International Airport Wednesday morning. Bush, in town for a speaking engagement, wanted to personally thank Christian and the staff of the Monroe Carell Jr. Children’s Hospital at Vanderbilt for their efforts in treating Amenah Al-Bayati, a 2-year-old Iraqi child suffering from a complex heart defect whose story garnered international attention. Brought to Vanderbilt through the efforts of the U.S. military, the child is back in Iraq following her surgery last month.
