Refugee physician to speak Sunday

Dr. Els Mathieu, a longtime volunteer for Doctors Without Borders, the Nobel Peace Prize-winning organization, will speak at 7 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 1 in 208 Light Hall. Her topic will be “Doctors Without Borders in Refugee Crisis.”

A native of Belgium, Mathieu has worked with refugees in many of the world’s trouble spots, including Chechnya, Vietnam, Dagestan, and Armenia.

Doctors Without Borders was the recipient of the 1999 Nobel Peace Prize. It is an independent international medical relief agency that aids victims of armed conflict, epidemics, and natural and man-made disasters. n
