Risa Lavizzo-Mourey, M.D., MBA, president and CEO of the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, will deliver the next Discovery Lecture on Thursday, Feb. 9.

Her presentation, “Reversing Childhood Obesity: Helping All Children Lead Healthier Lives” will begin at 4 p.m. in 208 Light Hall.
Lavizzo-Mourey has been at the helm of RWJF, America’s largest philanthropy devoted to health and health care, since 2003.

The foundation distributes more than $400 million per year in grants to “confront the most pressing health and health care problems threatening our society,” according to RWJF. Childhood obesity is one of the foundation’s program areas.

Prior to joining RWJF in 2001 as senior vice president and director of the Health Care Group, Lavizzo-Mourey was the Sylvan Eisman Professor of Medicine and Health Care Systems and director of the Institute on Aging at the University of Pennsylvania.

She also served as deputy administrator of the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality in the Department of Health and Human Services and co-chaired the working group on Quality of Care for the White House Task Force on Health Care Reform.

Lavizzo-Mourey is a member of the Institute of Medicine. She earned her medical degree from Harvard University and her MBA from the University of Pennsylvania’s Wharton School.
