Vanderbilt bid a fond farewell to departing Dean Steven Gabbe, M.D., during two days of events honoring his seven years of service to the School of Medicine. Gabbe is leaving VUSM to become senior vice president for Health Sciences and chief executive officer of the Medical Center at Ohio State University. Gabbe's last day at Vanderbilt was June 26.

Festivities included a June 20 luncheon that featured staff performing parodies of songs by Loretta Lynn, the Dixie Chicks and Dolly Parton in tribute to Gabbe's love for country music. On June 23 the Vanderbilt community turned out for a reception in Light Hall honoring Gabbe and his wife, Patricia Temple, M.D. Events capped off with a dinner at the Country Music Hall of Fame — the perfect venue in which to say goodbye to the School of Medicine's "Dean of Rock and Roll."
