Matthew Scanlan has joined the Vanderbilt University Medical Center Office of News and Public Affairs as a staff writer/information officer.
Scanlan will contribute articles to the office's three publications – the weekly VUMC Reporter, the monthly magazine House Organ and Vanderbilt Medicine, published three times per year for alumni of the School of Medicine.
In addition to his writing duties, Scanlan will share responsibility for disseminating news about VUMC to local, national and international news media, and will help provide 24-hour coverage of media inquiries with other members of the News and Public Affairs staff.
"Covering science and research is one of the most important things we do in this office," said Wayne Wood, assistant director of the Office of News and Public Affairs. "Matt's abilities will help us tell both internal and external audiences about VUMC's scientific achievements."
A Nashville native, Scanlan attended Hillsboro High School and recently graduated from Wittenberg University in Ohio.
