Schwartz named president-elect of MTS

Dr. Herbert S. Schwartz, professor of Orthopaedics and Rehabilitation, was recently named president-elect of the Musculoskeletal Tumor Society (MTS). MTS is an international society for orthopaedic oncologic surgeons, radiation oncologists, medical oncologists and those taking care of musculoskeletal tumors. Schwartz will serve as president of the MTS from now until July 2004.

The organization began ed in 1976 as a discussion group aimed at exchanging information regarding orthopaedic oncology. Improving the MTS website will be one of Schwartz’s main goals during his term as president. Schwartz hopes to transform this interactive teaching tool into a more patient-friendly format. He intends to use this vehicle to provide patients with information on disease definitions, potential treatments including limb salvage procedures, and regional listings of physicians dedicated to orthopaedic oncology.

“Orthopaedic oncology is not only about treating disease, but also about advancing science and promoting excellent patient care,” Schwartz said.
