Series of TV spots to feature familiar face

Carole Bartoo, R.N., public relations manager for the Monroe Carell Jr. Children's Hospital at Vanderbilt and a former health reporter with WSMV-Channel 4 News, is returning to the airways on Channel 4 to report on consumer health topics in a series of one-minute segments sponsored by Vanderbilt University Medical Center.

Beginning Jan. 23, daily “Medical Minutes” will air at 6:45 a.m. , and will cover a variety of topics ranging from hair loss in women to ways to properly dispose of old medications. The health segments are researched and written by Bartoo.

“I'm having a lot of fun doing it,” Bartoo said.

Bartoo was the health reporter for WSMV-Channel 4 News for four years before joining VUMC's Office of News and Public Affairs. She was a broadcast medical reporter for more than 15 years, having also worked in Chattanooga and Columbus, Ohio.

The Medical Minutes segments — which will be taped at different locations across VUMC — will air Monday through Friday for the next six months.

“Everyone has been so gracious in providing space for us to report from,” Bartoo said.
