Several departments, providers honored for high quality of care
Providers and clinical departments at Vanderbilt Medical Center have won 12 Top Performer Awards and 121 5-Star Awards in the 2008 Excellence in Healthcare Awards, sponsored by Professional Research Consultants Inc.
“I would like to thank and congratulate our 2008 award winners,” said Harry Jacobson, M.D., vice chancellor for Health Affairs. “Each is dedicated to providing the highest quality of care. These providers and departments know how to earn the trust and cooperation of our patients-something at the very heart of what we do here.”
The awards are based on patient responses to one survey question regarding their overall quality of care.
PRC conducts patient surveys nationwide and presents their findings to hospitals or health facilities for use in improving patient satisfaction.
Award eligibility is determined by the number of survey responses gathered by PRC. This year at Vanderbilt, all inpatient groups and most outpatient work groups were eligible.
Top Performer Awards go to professionals who score in the 100th percentile, while the 5-Star Awards go to those who score within the 90th to 99th percentiles. Providers are ranked against all eligible providers, but clinical services are ranked respective to their field.
These include emergency departments, home health programs, outpatient hospital services, primary care clinics, inpatient units, specialty clinics and urgent care.
