The Departments of Social Work at Vanderbilt University Hospital and the Monroe Carell Jr. Children's Hospital at Vanderbilt are hosting a conference from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Wednesday, March 11, at the Scarritt-Bennett Center.

The theme is “Advocacy, Leadership and Ethics in the Social Work Profession.”

The morning sessions will provide participants an overview of what it means to be an advocate and leader in today's society. Stewart Clifton, J.D., an attorney and lobbyist, will speak on advocacy, and John Seigenthaler, award-winning journalist and founding editorial director of USA Today, will speak on leadership.

The afternoon sessions will focus on the ethical responsibilities of being an advocate and leader in the professional world. The speaker will be Don Welch, Ph.D., professor of Law at Vanderbilt.

March is Social Work Month, and a celebration for social workers is planned for March 24. For more information, contact the Department of Social Work at 343-5907.
