The third annual Songs from the Heart Concert is scheduled for Friday, June 27, 6:30 p.m., at the Vanderbilt Student Life Center.

Singer and songwriter Tricia Walker, with musical and vocal accompaniment by Bill Sinclair, will perform songs written by cancer patients and others with an intimate knowledge of cancer.

“Every year we invite a group of cancer survivors, family members and caregivers to attend a songwriting workshop at Gilda's Club and share their deepest thoughts about cancer,” said Cindy Tinker, social worker for Vanderbilt-Ingram Cancer Center and coordinator of the event.

“It is a chance for folks from all walks of life to tell their stories. Then in just two days, Tricia Walker puts their words to music and performs the completed songs during this unique and entertaining concert.”

The concert is free, but donations will be accepted for the Vanderbilt-Ingram Cancer Center's Caring Hearts Fund, which provides assistance to cancer patients facing financial hardships.

Concert parking is free in the 25th Avenue Garage. Reserve a seat online at www.vicc.org/2008songs or call 322-7459.
