The $24,000 scholarships recognize one male and one female student athlete each year who excel in academic and athletic achievement as well as service to the community.

A native of Tempe, Ariz., Sheedy distinguished himself as a diver at the University of Arizona while studying biochemistry and molecular biophysics as well as physiology and Spanish. He was a co-captain of the Arizona diving team and served on the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee.

“When they called me and told me I had been selected I was completely shocked. This capped off an already amazing experience at Arizona.

“The swim and dive team won the national championships in 2008, and then to receive this in my final year was really incredible,” Sheedy said.
