Students tap Sizemore for CANDLE Award

Christopher Sizemore, M.D., intern in Obstetrics and Gynecology, was chosen by Vanderbilt University School of Medicine students for the most recent CANDLE (Caring, Advocating, Nurturing, Determination, Leadership and Empathy) Award.

The honor is given to individuals who have devoted themselves to teaching and mentoring.

Recipients are nominated and chosen based upon their positive impact on the lives of physicians-in-training, and are recognized by their students as examples of excellence in medical education.

“Dr. Sizemore took extra effort well above and beyond what he needed to do to make sure that I understood key concepts with patients that I was taking care of, and made an extra effort to make sure I was involved in the decision making steps with my patients,” one of his nominators wrote.

“He was an advocate for me as he wanted me to get the most experience out of the Ob/Gyn rotation, from delivering babies to performing Pap smears.

“Dr. Sizemore made an exceptional effort to maximize the learning experience. From taking extra hours to teach knot-tying to offering personal tips on how to polish presentations, he worked behind the scenes to make medical students look good.

“And despite his heavy workload, I never saw him without a smile.”
