Symposium honors Lamb Center for Pediatric Research
The next event in the Discovery Lecture Series will be a symposium honoring the 20th anniversary of the Elizabeth B. Lamb Center for Pediatric Research.
The symposium, which includes talks by four speakers, will be held from 1:30-4:30 p.m. on Thursday, April 8, in 208 Light Hall.
Speakers will include:
• Stephen Harrison, Ph.D., the Giovanni Amenise-Harvard Professor in Basic Biomedical Sciences and director of the Center for Molecular and Cellular Dynamics, Harvard Medical School, “Watching Rotavirus Enter Cells;”
• Diane Griffin, Alfred and Jill Sommer Professor and Chair, W. Harry Feinstone Department of Molecular Microbiology and Immunology, Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health, “Measles: The Immune Response in Clearance and Protection;”
• Peter Palese, Ph.D., Horace W. Goldsmith Professor and Chair, Department of Microbiology, professor, Department of Medicine, Mount Sinai School of Medicine, “Pandemic Influenza Viruses: Past and Future;”
• Rafi Ahmed, Ph.D., Georgia Research Alliance Scholar in Vaccine Research, professor of Microbiology and Immunology, Emory University School of Medicine, “PD-1 and Serendipity.”
The Lamb Center for Pediatric Research is an interdisciplinary research unit combining interests in infectious diseases, microbiology and immunology. The center, established in 1990 through the generous support of Mr. and Mrs. George C. Lamb Jr., is dedicated to basic research in the molecular pathogenesis of pediatric infectious diseases.
The Center currently houses the laboratories of James Chappell, M.D., Ph.D., Mark Denison, M.D., Terence Dermody, M.D., and Gregory Wilson, M.D., and is located within the Division of Pediatric Infectious Diseases.
The symposium is sponsored by The Elizabeth B. Lamb Center for Pediatric Research and the Vanderbilt Division of Pediatric Infectious Diseases.
