Dr. Steven Gabbe, dean of School of Medicine, fulfilled a promise he made in September at a local event to raise money for diabetes.

Gabbe served as the 2002 chair of the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation Walk to Cure Diabetes in September at Centennial Park. As promised, since Vanderbilt surpassed its monetary goal for the walk, Gabbe dressed in a Nashville Predators uniform this week and fielded shots by the Vanderbilt walkers who participated in the event. Gabbe was diagnosed with Type 1 (juvenile) diabetes more than 30 years ago.

VUMC had 600 walkers who participated in the walk. More than 4,000 walkers participated in the walk, raising more than $609,000.

Out of the 250 shots fired, only 15 scored, making Gabbe more than just a physician, but also a NHL hopeful.
