This year’s Steeplechase raised $500K
The 67th running of the Iroquois Steeplechase proved to be another successful fundraiser for the Monroe Carell Jr. Children's Hospital at Vanderbilt.
The 2008 event, held May 11, raised a total of $500,000 for the hospital's Children's Fund.
This year, an endowed fund was created to honor longtime Steeplechase and Children's Hospital supporter Henry Hooker and his wife, Alice, for their dedication and commitment to the Steeplechase and Children's Hospital.
A fundraising effort by the volunteer chairmen of the 2008 Steeplechase resulted in more than $200,000 in contributions for the Hooker Endowment Fund, which will benefit type 1 diabetes research at Children's Hospital.
Since its affiliation with Children's Hospital in 1981, the event has raised more than $9 million for specialized medical equipment, pediatric critical care and research into childhood diseases.
The 68th Iroquois Steeplechase will take place May 9, 2009.
