Three Nashville community leaders were honored at last week's second annual Celebration of Women Mentoring Women, which highlights some of the unseen work in the Nashville community and encourages all women to mentor those around them.
The honorees were:
• Valerie Montgomery-Rice, M.D., dean of the School of Medicine, Meharry Medical College
• The Rev. Mary K. “Kaki” Friskics-Warren, givingmatters.com director at the Community Foundation of Middle Tennessee
• Martha Burton, teacher of Early Childhood Educations and Family and Consumer Sciences at Pearl-Cohn Comprehensive Business Magnet School.
Proceeds from the event support Vanderbilt University's Maternal Infant Health Outreach Worker (MIHOW) program, which is a partnership between the Vanderbilt Center for Health Services and community-based organizations in Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, Tennessee and West Virginia.
