Time once again for Vanderbilt to Celebrate

Featured Image

Vanderbilt's Employee Celebration 2008 kicks off Monday, Sept. 8.

The monthlong event honors Vanderbilt staff and faculty for their service, and begins with a day of festivities on Library Lawn.

The Sept. 8 kickoff runs from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., and will feature free T-shirts, chair massages and food, as well as door prize drawings and entertainment by musical acts including Soul Incision and Jennifer Brantley.

Tickets will be pre-sold at the kickoff for the Taste @ Vandy that will be held on Wednesday, Sept. 10. Some of the featured vendors will be Bread & Company Bakery, California Pizza Kitchen, Ben and Jerry's and Watermark Restaurant. Tickets at kickoff may be purchased for $3 and they will be $4 the day of the Taste. All proceeds benefit the Employee Assistance Hardship Fund.

Throughout the month, a variety of free special events will take place. As in past years, T-shirts will be given away at several of the events. Employees must present their ID badges, which will be scanned. If collecting a shirt for a co-worker, their badge must be scanned as well. Events where shirts will be available include the Kick-off Celebration, Friday Night Lights and Night Owl Howl.

New this year is an employee garage sale, set for Saturday, Sept. 6, from 7 a.m. to noon at the 25th Avenue Staff Garage. Fifty tables are available, at $20 each, for employees who have items to sell. To register for a table, go to the Employee Celebration Web site, e-mail vmcpromotions@vanderbilt.edu or call 936-0322.

“Vanderbilt's employees are its most valuable assets, and this special month of recognition helps honor what they do all year long,” said Harry R. Jacobson, M.D., vice chancellor for Health Affairs.
