Two meetings to focus on pediatric cancer treatment
The Monroe Carell Jr. Children's Hospital at Vanderbilt will host several regional and international thinkers in the realm of pediatric cancer treatment and research at two separate meetings taking place Feb. 1-5.
• The inaugural Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL) New Agents Conference will be held Feb. 1-2, bringing together eight groups with an interest in new therapies for ALL.
Among the approximate 30 participants will be representatives from several states as well as Italy, Germany, the United Kingdom, France, Canada and other countries.
“We are excited to be bringing in people from across the world to discuss new drug developments for childhood cancer, and we'd like to identify and remove obstacles for exploring new drug therapies,” said Jim Whitlock, M.D., director of the Division of Pediatric Hematology/Oncology at Children's Hospital, and one of the organizers for the meetings. “The future is in international collaborations.”
• The biannual Pediatric Oncology Experimental Therapeutics Investigation Consortium (POETIC) meeting will be held at Children's Hospital Feb. 3-5. POETIC consists of Children's Hospital and Vanderbilt-Ingram Cancer Center, M.D. Anderson Cancer Center, Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center, the Sidney Kimmel Cancer Center at Johns Hopkins, Children's Healthcare of Atlanta at Egleston, the Children's Hospital at the University of Colorado, the University of Florida, Phoenix Children's Hospital, University of Arizona and Southern Alberta (Canada) Children's Cancer Program.
