VCH Ambassador Darnell dies after battle with cancer

Vanderbilt Children’s Hospital Ambassador Katie Darnell, 19, died at her home in Princeton, Ky., Thursday, June 12, after a long battle with brain cancer.

Darnell was chosen as ambassador in 2001 and attended the Children’s Miracle Network (CMN) Champions Across America celebration in Washington, D.C. and Orlando that year. As part of the celebration, she performed the song she wrote, “Rescue Me,” with John Rich for President George W. Bush and First Lady Laura Bush at the White House, and again in Orlando at the taping of the CMN annual fund-raising campaign.

Wynonna Judd has recently recorded “Rescue Me” to be released on her upcoming album in August.
