VICC event to honor those touched by cancer

A celebrated singer/songwriter and a nationally known speaker are the featured presenters at this year's “Living in Full Bloom,” sponsored by Vanderbilt-Ingram Cancer Center.

The annual event to celebrate cancer survivorship will be held at the Vanderbilt Student Life Center from 2:30-4:30 p.m., Sunday, June 14, with a reception beginning at 2 p.m.
“Living in Full Bloom” is a free event for everyone whose life has been affected by cancer, including cancer survivors, family members, friends and medical professionals.

This year's keynote speaker is Brenda Elsagher, colorectal cancer survivor, comic and author. Musical entertainment will be provided by Benita Hill, a non-Hodgkin's lymphoma survivor.

“We are blessed to have two well-known speakers and entertainers for this year's event and I am sure they will provide humor and inspiration to all of our participants,” said Sheila Bates, L.M.S.W., manager of Community Outreach. “It truly is a wonderful experience for everyone who participates.”

In addition to the main celebration, there will be a children's indoor beach party and a cake and punch reception.

Free valet and self-parking is available in the 25th Avenue Garage, with shuttle service to the Student Life Center. To reserve a seat, call 936-0322 or visit www.vicc.org/2009living. Reservations should be received by Wednesday, June 10.

“Living in Full Bloom” is co-sponsored by the Tennessee Comprehensive Cancer Control Coalition and the American Cancer Society.
