VU aims for largest Race for the Cure team

With hundreds of participants set to walk and run, Vanderbilt is competing for the title of largest corporate team in this year's Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure.

The annual 5K race for breast cancer is scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 3, at Bicentennial Capital Mall State Park downtown.

Early registration starts at 6:30 a.m. and the 5K walk/run begins at 8:45 a.m. Participants also can sign up for a 1 mile walk.

The VU team is competing for best T-shirt design. This year's Commodore Award winner, Pam Martin, designed the “V-Team” T-shirt. Martin, a breast cancer survivor, is lab manager in the Department of Cancer Biology.

All roads around Bicentennial Mall will be closed after 8 a.m. on race day so everyone is encouraged to hop on the shuttles provided by Vanderbilt. Park free at 2100 Metro Center Blvd., across from Crest Hummer.

The shuttles run from 6-8 a.m. and from 10 a.m. to noon. For more information visit www.komen-nashville.org or call Jill Forbert at 936-0301.
