Vanderbilt University Hospital has been named a Quality Respiratory Care Provider by the American Association for Respiratory Care (AARC).

The AARC launched the Quality Respiratory Care Recognition program earlier this year, to help consumers make informed choices about their health care.

Hospitals recognized under the program agree to adhere to a strict set of criteria governing their respiratory care services. About 500 hospitals, or approximately 10 percent of hospitals in the U.S., have applied for and received recognition. The AARC represents more than 42,000 health professionals involved in respiratory care nationwide.

Respiratory therapists provide a wide range of services to people with asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, cystic fibrosis, lung cancer, AIDS, and other lung or lung-related conditions.
