There are presently 69 military reservists and national guardsmen and women employed at Vanderbilt University, and all but two work at the medical center.

Fifteen VUMC staff and faculty have recently been called to active duty, including three doctors, six nurses, one care partner and five other staff members in Radiology, Environmental Services, and Contract and Grant Accounting.

Activated staff and faculty receive a letter from Vanderbilt about their employee rights and benefits. Employees called to active duty are ensured a job upon their return.

Jobs vacated by active duty staff and faculty may be filled by temporary or term employees. Employees should notify their managers as soon as they’ve been activated.
