The recent Second Harvest food drive at Vanderbilt gathered a total of 21,020 pounds of food, almost 5,000 more pounds than the previous year’s total of 16,138 pounds, officials at the local food bank said.

The December 2011 total included 7,724 lbs. of donated food, and 13,296 lbs. of turkeys donated by staff and faculty as part of the annual Holiday Turkey Giveaway.

“It is always exciting and heartwarming to see how the Vanderbilt community helps our Nashville community,” said Susie Lyons of Human Resources’ Organizational Effectiveness Team, who organized the drive.

“Our University and Medical Center Staff Councils, in coordination with Plant Operations, worked tirelessly to promote our drive and to monitor our collection boxes.”
