Weinberg wins CDC champion award
The new award program recognizes individuals working at the community level who are doing an exemplary job to foster childhood immunizations.
Weinberg is credited with helping to increase flu vaccination in one clinic by 46 percent from the previous year by providing influenza vaccine information to doctors and nurses using an electronic outpatient whiteboard that he created.
He also developed a link to share immunization information between Vanderbilt and the state's immunization registry, giving providers easy access to registry data for their patients, integrated into a single view with the immunizations in Vanderbilt's electronic medical records. Information on vaccines administered in the pediatric clinics is also electronically submitted to the state registry, eliminating paperwork for clinic staff.
Nominations were submitted directly to state immunization programs, where managers evaluated nominees and recommended one individual from their state for the CDC award. Tennessee is one of 39 states participating in the award program’s inaugural year.
Winners were announced in conjunction with National Infant Immunization Week, April 21-28.
